Vela: The sails of a ship

The Myth Behind the Constellation Vela

Vela, “The Sails”, was part of a much larger constellation known as Argo Navis, the ship Argo.  Argo was the vessel that Jason and the Argonauts sailed on during their quest for the Golden Fleece (see Aries.)  In the mid-eighteenth century French astronomer Nicolas-Louis de La Caille divided this super constellation into three parts; Carina, Puppis and Vela.  He also created a fourth constellation, Pyxis, using stars from part of this vast group.

Thanks to BenXJim I discovered Vela

I am fond of watching BL (Boys Love) series since 2015. I have discovered the beauty and diversity of love through these undeniably amazing stories. We are used to watching heteros stories with different plots focusing on love and the likes, now with the  sudden boom of these kind of films we are now seeing stories that were never told and breaking the norm of the stories that has always been told. One of the Pinoy BL series that trended this year is BenXJim a story of love, friendship and acceptance.

Vela: Sails

Vela was mentioned in this series and it has captured my attention. How stars and constellations share different kind of stories. The galaxy has stories to tell too. Stars are just like our dreams, wherein in our culture, dream has always been associated are with height or something above us, just like the stars. We sometimes tend to rely to fortune tellers with our luck, there basis the stars.

We may use sail to describe our journey in life, like the idiomatic expression smooth sailing, which means easy progress without impediment or difficulty, but not all journey are smooth some are rough and tough. We might encounter storms in our journey that will shake and break us, strong wind that will push us away, and rain that will soaked us with water. These will shake and break us but it will make us tough and make us a better person. It might be a rough and tough sail now, but please continue to finish the route and achieve your goals.

Let us be the stars that continue to shine up above, dream and continue your sail.
