Plants versus Zombies: Things I have learned from working in the government

Plants vs. Zombie

Over a decade ago, George Fan a master of zany game design, launched Plants vs. Zombies which became a cultural phenomenon upon its release in 2009. This PopCap Games original involves a homeowner using many varieties of plants to repel zombies from "eating their brains".

This phenomenal game showed us the glimpse of survival, plants being intact with its roots and zombies being killed twice. Prevent the zombie surge or else, you'll die and loss your brain.

The positions in the government

For almost four years now I have been working in the government, I have encountered such terms that I have no idea what it means, but during the long stay in the government these terms, especially the positions in government, made me realized that working in the government is like playing Plants versus Zombies, it is a survival game. The battle between plantilla positions - permanent, casual and contractual - and the contract of service/job orders.

From my previous post up to the job I am at right now I am part of the sky-rocketing number of contract of service in the government. Individual Contract of Services/ Job Order - refers to employment described as follows: 1. The contract covers lump sum work or services such as janitorial, security, or consultancy where no employer- employee relationship exists between the individual and the government; 2. The job order covers piece work or intermittent job of short duration not exceeding six months and pay is on a daily basis; 3. The contract of services and job order are not covered by Civil Service law, rules and regulations, but covered by Commission on Audit (COA) rules; 4. The employees involved in the contract or job order do not enjoy the benefits enjoyed by government employees, such as PERA, ACA and RATA. and 5. Services rendered thereunder are not considered as government service. These has been the label that we are called in the battle field where plantilla positions (plants) beats us.

I wish one day the skyrocketing number of COS/JO would subside... We all deserve something that will last...
